Atlantis bathed in zenon lights inches closer to the pad.

  • Standing in front of Atlantis inside the cavernous VAB.
  • Atlantis waits in the Transfer Aisle of the massive Vehicle Assembly Building before she is mated to the waiting External Fuel Tank and Solid Rocket Boosters. This same spot saw huge Saturn V rockets stacked for the Apollo Program.
  • This is a shot looking straight up in the center of the VAB transfer aisle. The roof is 525 feet over my head.

  • Atlantis reaches the doors of the VAB for the last time. First motion was delayed about 35 minutes due to a hydraulic leak on the crawler-transporter.
  • Atlantis well clear of the doors as workers clear the plywood that was placed under the crawler tracks to protect the concrete floor of the VAB.

  • Sunrise washes over Atlantis on a tranquil morning at the Kennedy Space Center. A bittersweet moment to reflect on a 30 year history.
  • We were among the fortunate few who get to see a space shuttle this close and wish Atlantis well as storm clouds gather.
  • Stepping on to the Mobile Launch Platform is an awe-inspiring moment that can't really be described!
